Pesticide QR code, Rule 19 and beyond
The retail pack of every pesticide needs a QR code with a unique identifier or GTIN, the batch number, the manufacturing and expiry dates and your web link. Pick your formulation from the 992 in the CIB&RC Major Uses lists, type the details and get one small code, ready to print. Any phone camera opens it: Page 1 shows those five items, Page 2 your registration, crops and doses.
Rs. 69 + GST a product · additional information included free · vector PDF and PNG image · GST invoice · also by e-mail
1 Choose the formulations
Type the active ingredient, the formulation or a crop, then tap each product to add it (tap again to take it out). One code per product and batch, Rs. 69 + GST each.
Up to 100 products in one order. Download the sheet, fill one row per product (product, batch number, dates, web link, registration and crops; brand and GTIN optional) in Excel or Google Sheets, and upload it here. The products and details fill in below, for you to check before you pay.
2 Details for each product
First the five items Rule 19 asks for: the GTIN or product code, optional (the barcode number on your pack from GS1 India, often starting 890, or your own code; left empty, we make a unique identifier such as UID-7K3M-Q9TX; not the GSTIN), the batch number, both dates and your web link. Then the additional information, included free: your CIB&RC registration number and date and the uses on your approved label (tick only those). Details you type are kept on this device for your next batch (except the batch number and dates).
Unique Identifier or GTIN: what Rule 19 says
The rule: Rule 19(1)(i)(w) of the Insecticides Rules, 1971 (inserted by G.S.R. 211(E), 2023): the QR code on the retail pack shall contain at least (a) Unique Identifier or GTIN, (b) batch number, (c) date of manufacturing, (d) date of expiry and (e) web link.
Is it compulsory? Item (a) is: every code must carry an identifier. A GTIN is not compulsory: the rule says "Unique Identifier or GTIN".
Why it matters: it tells exactly which product the pack is; with the batch number and dates it traces the pack back to its batch, for buyers, dealers and inspectors.
- You have a GTIN (the number under your barcode, from GS1 India, usually starting 890): type it.
- No GTIN: type your own product code, or leave the box empty: we make a unique identifier for you, never digits only, so it is never mistaken for a GTIN.
Your automatic identifier for this product:
Please note: the automatic identifier is the same for this product every time you order with the same GSTIN (or company name). It is printed in your PDF: keep it in your product records and use the same one wherever an identifier is asked for. If you get a GTIN later, type the GTIN for new batches. It is not your GSTIN.

What Rule 19 asks
The Insecticides (Second Amendment) Rules, 2023 (G.S.R. 211(E)) added to Rule 19(1)(i)(w): the QR code shall be placed on the retail pack (primary or secondary pack, as the case may be) at a suitable place, so that on scanning it with a mobile phone a web link of the manufacturing company appears which, when opened, shows the entire label and leaflet; and the QR code shall contain at least:
- Unique identifier or GTIN
- Batch number
- Date of manufacturing
- Date of expiry
- Web link or URL
Your code's link carries (a) to (d); the PDF it opens shows all five items in these words, with your web link (e), and Page 2 with the registration, title, composition, crops and doses. Check any code free with the QR code checker.

Questions
What must the QR code on a pesticide pack contain?
Rule 19(1)(i)(w) of the Insecticides Rules, 1971 (as amended by G.S.R. 211(E), 2023) asks for a QR code on the retail pack, primary or secondary, that contains at least a unique identifier or GTIN, the batch number, the date of manufacturing, the date of expiry and a web link or URL. Scanning it must bring up the link to the manufacturing company's page with the entire label and leaflet.
What does a phone show when it scans the code?
A link that carries your identifier or GTIN, batch and dates. One tap opens a 2-page PDF: Page 1 shows the five items in the rule's own words, (a) Unique Identifier or GTIN, (b) Batch Number, (c) Date of Manufacturing, (d) Date of Expiry, (e) Web link or URL, your company's page with the full label and leaflet; Page 2 shows the registration number and date, the brand and common name, the composition, and the crops and doses you tick from the CIB&RC Major Uses list.
Is the additional information allowed?
The rule says the code shall contain "at least" the five items, so more is allowed, but it must match your approved label and leaflet: tick only the uses on your label. It is included in the price.
Is it one code per batch?
Yes. The batch number and the dates are inside the code, so each batch needs its own code, printed at packing or on a label printed for that batch. One order makes the codes for one batch of each product chosen.
Is a GTIN compulsory?
No. Rule 19 asks for a "Unique Identifier or GTIN". A GTIN is the number under the barcode on your pack, issued by GS1 India (Indian numbers usually start with 890); if you have one, type it. If not, type your own product code, or leave the box empty and we make a unique identifier for you, such as UID-7K3M-Q9TX: the same for this product in every order you place, and never all digits, so it cannot be mistaken for a GTIN. It is not the GSTIN, your tax number.
Can I order codes for many products at once?
Yes, up to 100 products in one order. Choose them one by one, or download the Excel sheet in step 1, fill one row per product (the formulation from the list, batch number, dates, web link, registration number and date, and the crops on your approved label; brand and GTIN optional) and upload it. The products and details fill in on the page: each crop ticks its uses from the CIB&RC list, so untick any use not on your approved label, check the preview and pay. The codes are drawn as soon as the payment is received: about a minute at most for 100 products. One order has one batch of each product; for a second batch, place a second order.
How big must the code be?
About 2.5 to 3 cm. The PDF shows each code at its smallest print size and large, as a vector graphic your designer can scale up but never below that size, and the PNG image is about 10 cm at 300 dpi.
Why a link to nanokheti.com and not text inside the code?
We first put all the text inside the code, but phones showed such codes as "Search barcode" or nothing at all. A link works on every phone camera, keeps the code small (about 2.5 cm) and still carries the identifier, batch and dates; the free QR code checker on NanoKheti's pesticide label checklist page finds all five items in it. Each code's pages are saved on nanokheti.com when you pay, with no end date.
Can I check an existing pesticide QR code for free?
Yes: the free QR code checker on NanoKheti's pesticide label checklist page reads a code from the camera, a photo or pasted text and shows which of the five items are in it.
