Carrier Based Consortia
A biofertiliser specified under the Fertiliser Control Order, 1985 (Schedule III, Part A, item 9). Key notified values: Individual organism viable Count CFU minimum in a mixture of any 2 or maximum three of following micro-organisms: CFU minimum Rhizobium or Azotobacter or Azospirillum 1×107 cells per gram (g).
Tip This is a compliance tool, so it is best viewed on a desktop or laptop. The phone version shows everything too.
Specification
As notified in the Order, line by line. Values are per cent by weight unless the line says otherwise.
How to read this table
- CFU (colony forming units) is the count of live cells in the lab test: 5×107 means 5 crore cells in every gram (or mL, for liquids).
- Tolerance: a lab result may fall slightly short of the notified value before the sample is called non-standard; the limits are in Schedule III, Part B.
- S.O. … (E) is the number of the Gazette notification that made a change; “in force” (w.e.f., with effect from) is the date it started to apply.
| Parameter | Notified value | |
|---|---|---|
| Individual organism viable Count | CFU minimum in a mixture of any 2 or maximum three of following micro-organisms: CFU minimum Rhizobium or Azotobacter or Azospirillum 1×107 cells per gram (g). | |
| CFU minimum PSB 1×107 cells per gram (g) | ||
| CFU minimum KSB 1×107 cells per gram (g) | ||
| Total viable count of all the biofertilisers in the product | CFU minimum 3×107 cells per gram of carrier/powder or per gram capsule content. | |
| Efficiency character | The efficiency character of individual microorganisms to be determined as mentioned in case of individual biofertilizers through quantitative estimation methods. |
Tolerance (Schedule III, Part B): 2. In case of Consortia, the total viable count shall not be less than 1×107 in case of carrier based and 1×108 in case of liquid formulations.
Test methods: Schedule III, Part D (methods of analysis of biofertilisers).
Check a lab report
Compare the results of a lab test with this specification, line by line, including the tolerance allowed in Part B. Enter counts as on the report, for example 5x10^7, 5e7 or 50000000. A guide only: the report of a notified laboratory decides whether a sample is standard.
| Parameter | Notified | Lab result | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rhizobium, Azotobacter or Azospirillum, cells per g | 1×107 per g min | ||
| PSB, cells per g | 1×107 per g min | ||
| KSB, cells per g | 1×107 per g min | ||
| Total viable count, cells per g | 3×107 per g minwith the tolerance: 1×107 min |
Notification history
- 1 Jul 2021S.O. 2671(E): entry substituted (in force 2 Jul 2021)
- 13 Mar 2026S.O. 1335(E): Total viable count of all the biofertilisers in the product line: the words “or per gram capsule content” inserted
Before you make, label or buy it
- Manufacturers and importers: each declared value on the label must meet the limit above; samples are tested by the notified method.
- Dealers and farmers: check that the product name and declared contents on the pack match this specification, and keep the bill with the batch number.
- Doses are not part of this specification: follow the label and local agricultural advice.
