Potassium Mobilising Biofertilisers (KMB)
A biofertiliser specified under the Fertiliser Control Order, 1985 (Schedule III, Part A, item 6). Key notified values: Total viable Count CFU minimum 5×107 cell per gram of powder, granules or carrier material or or per gram of capsule content or 1×108 cell per milliliter (ml) of liquid.
Tip This is a compliance tool, so it is best viewed on a desktop or laptop. The phone version shows everything too.
Specification
As notified in the Order, line by line. Values are per cent by weight unless the line says otherwise.
How to read this table
- CFU (colony forming units) is the count of live cells in the lab test: 5×107 means 5 crore cells in every gram (or mL, for liquids).
- Tolerance: a lab result may fall slightly short of the notified value before the sample is called non-standard; the limits are in Schedule III, Part B.
- S.O. … (E) is the number of the Gazette notification that made a change; “in force” (w.e.f., with effect from) is the date it started to apply.
| Parameter | Notified value | |
|---|---|---|
| Total viable Count | CFU minimum 5×107 cell per gram of powder, granules or carrier material or or per gram of capsule content or 1×108 cell per milliliter (ml) of liquid. | |
| Contamination level | No contamination at 10^5 dilution. | |
| pH | 5.0-7.0 for carrier based in the form of powder or granules and 5.0-7.5 for liquid base or capsule in gelatin based. | |
| Efficiency character | The strain should be capable of solubilizing at least 20 mg/litre of Potash in liquid broth when tested as per the method given using Aluminium Potassium Silicate as K source. |
Tolerance (Schedule III, Part B): 1. In case of Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Azospirillum Phosphate Solubilising Bacteria, Potash Mobilising Bacteria, Zinc Solubilising Bacteria, the total viable count shall not be less than 1×107CFU/gm of carrier material in the form of powder or granules or 5×107CFU/ml in case of liquid formulations.
Test methods: Schedule III, Part D (methods of analysis of biofertilisers).
Check a lab report
Compare the results of a lab test with this specification, line by line, including the tolerance allowed in Part B. Enter counts as on the report, for example 5x10^7, 5e7 or 50000000. A guide only: the report of a notified laboratory decides whether a sample is standard.

Before you make, label or buy it
- Manufacturers and importers: each declared value on the label must meet the limit above; samples are tested by the notified method.
- Dealers and farmers: check that the product name and declared contents on the pack match this specification, and keep the bill with the batch number.
- Doses are not part of this specification: follow the label and local agricultural advice.
