Public health and household insecticides

The parts of the official CIB&RC insecticides list that are not for crops: mosquito control (larvicides, indoor sprays, treated nets), ready-to-use household products (coils, mats, vaporizers, aerosols, gels and baits) and the FAO doses for locust control, each with its dose exactly as listed.

▦ New: the QR code every pesticide pack now needs (Rule 19, Insecticides Rules), for your product and batch · Rs. 69 + GST →

From the CIB&RC list of major uses of insecticides, up to 30 September 2026 (public health use, household use and FAO locust control), based on certificates issued. For guidance, not for legal purposes: the approved label of each product is what counts. Bio-larvicides: bio-insecticides page.

How to read this page

  1. Not for crops. These products are registered for homes, buildings, water bodies and vector control. Crop uses are on the insecticides by crop pages.
  2. Each product has its own table, as in the list: doses can be per square metre of wall, per 500 m², per hectare of water surface, per coil or mat, or ready to use.
  3. “For use by pest control operator only” and “for import only” are part of the registration where the list says so.
  4. Every word and figure is as printed, including the list’s own spellings; anything unclear is marked ⚠.

Manufacturers: every pack needs a QR code under Rule 19. Make it with the pesticide QR code maker →

Questions

Public health and household insecticides: short answers

Which insecticides are registered for household use in India?

The CIB&RC list (up to 30 September 2026) gives 95 household entries: mosquito coils, mats and liquid vaporizers (allethrin, d-trans allethrin, prallethrin, transfluthrin, metofluthrin and others), aerosols, cockroach and ant gels and baits (fipronil, imidacloprid, dinotefuran, thiamethoxam), chalk, and sprays for homes and buildings.

Which active ingredients are registered for mosquito coils?

In the household section: Allethrin, Bifenthrin, D-Trans Allethrin, Metofluthrin, Prallethrin, Renofluthrin, Transfluthrin. Each entry gives the strength and, for some, the minimum burning time; check the registered product you buy.

What is the difference between public health and household products?

Public health products are used in programmes against mosquitoes and other vectors, by health departments and pest control operators: larvicides for water bodies, indoor residual sprays and treated bed nets, at doses per square metre or per hectare of water. Household products are ready to use in homes: coils, mats, vaporizers, aerosols, gels and baits.

Which chemicals does FAO recommend for locust control?

The list prints the FAO-recommended doses for hoppers and adults of the desert locust (chlorpyriphos, deltamethrin, diflubenzuron, fipronil, lambda-cyhalothrin, malathion), with notes on fenitrothion and on dust formulations approved for the scheduled desert area. The table is above.

Do household insecticide packs need a QR code?

Yes. Rule 19 of the Insecticides Rules asks for a QR code on the label of every insecticide pack, household products included. NanoKheti’s pesticide QR code maker has every product on this page.

Is this list legally binding?

No. The list says it is compiled from available information for guidance, not for legal purposes. What binds is each product’s certificate of registration with its approved label and leaflet.

Source: Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee, Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage: Major uses of pesticides (registered under the Insecticides Act, 1968), Insecticides, up to 30.09.2026, based on certificates issued: 3. Insecticides registered for public health use, 4. Insecticides registered for household use, 5. Recommended chemicals by FAO for locust control.
